The casing is made of cardboard resistant to harsh conditions. Inside, there is a drip watering system and a connector for the moisture sensor. A coconut layer is placed on top and bottom for aeration. The substrate itself is high-quality soil, ion-exchange resin, and fertilizers. It’s shipped in shrink wrap for protection.
No. Only owners who have already received their EVA are admitted to the chat, and they register with their serial number.
If we talk about sage (as an example), autoflowering varieties work best, but you can always try photoperiod varieties too—we’ve included a 12/12 lighting mode. EVA is designed for shorter plants (up to 60 cm), but it also supports taller varieties (up to 120 cm). For these taller plants, you’d need to perform topping or gently train the plant onto the second scrog net.
For most plant varieties, seed germination is about 95%. We’ve improved this rate by adding a special seed-germination cube in the cartridge. Once the seed has sprouted, it’s generally safe. EVA will let you know if there’s no water, if it’s too hot, or if there’s an opportunity to further care for the plant. The harvest depends on many factors, but over a couple of years of development, we’ve found that the current grow box size is perfect in every sense.
A soil moisture range of 16–60% is considered normal. At different stages of growth, EVA alternates between thorough watering and allowing the substrate to dry out slightly.
EVA handles watering automatically. Over a full cycle, it will use 6–10 liters of drinking water. The internal water tank holds about 4.5 liters, so you can fill it up and leave for a month. If you need full-cycle autonomy, you can install an external reservoir through the technical opening. Right after starting a new cycle, EVA pours about 400 ml of water through the seed. This “initial soak” triggers the germination process. Early on, the plant needs little water, and the amount stored in the soil is enough until around days 18–25. Around that time, the second major watering occurs. Watering is triggered at 25% soil moisture level, at 20:10 EVA time.
Hydroponics can be noisy, it takes a lot of time, and it requires a significant amount of space. Instead, we created a replaceable soil cartridge containing a substrate with ion-exchange properties (the plant takes whatever nutrients it needs by itself). We equipped it with a watering system and a soil moisture sensor. Unlike hydroponics, all the required elements are already in the cartridge; you only need plain water. It’s faster, quieter, and simpler.
Yes, you can sleep near EVA. During development, we replaced three fans with two high-performance fans, and their speed is controlled by PWM. Because of this, most of the time EVA is almost silent (under 18 dB). If the room is very hot, EVA will work harder to cool itself and might be louder. EVA may also suggest moving it to a cooler place or reducing supplemental lighting if it determines that will improve the harvest.
No. EVA uses two filters: An incoming air filter made of carbon fabric. An outgoing air filter consisting of a cardboard housing, HEPA material, and 500 g of high-quality activated carbon. It captures 100% of any odors produced inside EVA. The filter lasts for 3–4 cycles, depending on the plant variety and its stress level. Above the filter, there’s a fan that extracts air from EVA. Its speed adjusts automatically based on the temperature in the growing chamber. There is also an intake fan that helps pollinate the plant.
Every few months, you need to clean the water supply system. EVA will recommend cleaning every 2–3 growing cycles. You simply put cleaning tablets in the water tank and run the cleaning program. We don’t include a cleaning kit with every new EVA because initially, there’s nothing to clean.
You connect the cartridge (included in the kit), place a seed in it, and fill the tank with water. For the next two months, EVA automatically manages watering, lighting, ventilation, and temperature. Depending on the plant variety and room climate, you may need to add water 2–3 times throughout the entire cycle. At certain stages, EVA may give suggestions on how to increase your yield (see more in the instructions).
Nothing critical. A short outage (up to 3 seconds) won’t even turn EVA off. If it’s longer, the plant will think “night has fallen.” The plant can survive several days like this without serious consequences, though it might affect the harvest. EVA is equipped with a real-time module running on its own power source. Once electricity is restored, EVA switches back on automatically and continues its program.
No. All the essential macro- and microelements are already contained in the soil cartridge. The roots will take exactly what they need. This is a unique technology used even in space! Once the plant finishes its growth cycle, just replace the cartridge and start a new growing process. The cartridge itself is made of a high-quality substrate and a mixture of ion-exchange resins (anion and cation resins) based on a styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer matrix. It is enriched with the macroelements nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as trace elements such as copper, manganese, zinc, iron, boron, and molybdenum, all in forms easily absorbed by plants. These elements are released from the resin in exchange for calcium, magnesium, and other ions in the water. For this reason, you should not use distilled water or reverse-osmosis water unless it has been re-mineralized.
It’s similar to using additives in a car engine. Some might help, while others can seriously worsen the situation. You can experiment if you want—the key is to have fun. We don’t add anything ourselves but continuously improve the cartridge for ideal results.

Open it only right before use. Store it in a dark, ventilated, and dry place. In its sealed packaging (film), it can be stored for up to 30 days at room temperature or up to six months at -18°C. Before thawing, remove the packaging film and leave the cartridge at room temperature for a few hours until it has completely thawed.
Not at the moment, but we always collect feedback and listen to our customers. EVA is a serially produced model, and we’ve chosen all the components carefully. We believe the current size is excellent: it fits into interiors perfectly, and the plant feels comfortable.
